That is because, until a few months ago, there was no BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) for Novell GroupWise. The days of GroupWise Administrators having to set up a completely different mail system for Executives just so they could use a BlackBerry are over. Those Admins should also have to worry less about individual users forwarding all of their company email to personal email accounts so that they could use BlackBerry Internet Service on their own. I’ll bet one of the longest lines at this weeks Novell BrainShare 2005 conference will be right in front of the Research in Motion booth as GroupWise customers line up to discuss deployments of BES in their organizations.

NewsCable & Wireless To Offer BlackBerry In Eastern Caribbean Islands

St. Lucia, East Caribbean and Waterloo, Canada - Cable & Wireless Ltd. and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced plans to offer BlackBerry® to customers in the Eastern Caribbean islands. The amount relates primarily to settlement of past damages, and includes the judgment and money escrowed to date totalling US$137 million (the US$152 million previously accrued included approximately US$15 million in other litigation related fees). PIN messaging or Personal Identification Number messaging allows BlackBerry users to send messages directly to other BlackBerry users, bypassing the BlackBerry Server. This poses security issues because of the lack of auditing on these messages. If a user were to delete a PIN message before syncing back to a BlackBerry Server, the message could be lost forever. Don't get my wrong, I love my 7100t and could not imagine life without it, but, I have also come to rely on many of the applications that run on my Pocket PC that I just cannot find for the BlackBerry. That being said, my dream of only having to carry one device that can handle all my needs is near reality. The T-Mobile MDA IV will hopefully be released sometime in late Q2 or early Q3, just around the time that my existing plan expires. Expected features are:

VGA resolution swiveling LCD screen

WiFi

Bluetooth

520MHz processor

Full QWERTY keyboard

Windows Mobile 2005

RIM’s BlackBerry Connect email technology

Automatic switching between WiFi and 3G/GPRS

Comverse And Research In Motion To Integrate Visual Voicemail With BlackBerry

I have always said that it would be nice if I could see my voicemails in an email like format with the date & time and the caller number and be able to save them, delete them, forward them, etc., etc., without having to actually call voicemail and and use the prompts. I guess someone was listening...

With Visual Voicemail for BlackBerry, users will appreciate the easy-to-use application, as it will bypass dial-in access and voice prompts and will enable quick and hassle-free access to any voicemail message with a simple click of the trackwheel on a BlackBerry device. The Visual Voicemail application will also integrate with core BlackBerry applications, enabling users to manage their voicemail together with email, messaging and phone applications through a single inbox.

"The Wall Street Journal Online" for the BlackBerry

The WSJ and OuterCurve Technologies have teamed up to bring you continually updated business news and global market updates to your BlackBerry via InfoEdge OnDemand.

The addition of BlackBerry delivery follows another move from the Journal toward more mobile distribution of its content. Monthly data plans from Cingular are $39.99 for four megabytes and $49.99 for unlimited usage.

BlackBerry 7100 Wins Handheld Device of the Year Award

The BlackBerry 7100 absolutely destroyed the competition in Datamation’s Product of the Year Awards in the Handheld Device category with over 85% of the votes. You do have to sign up a one year service subscription for $29.99 a month but you also get 85$ worth of mail-in rebates to cover the setup fee and the first month’s subscription costs. This is not a bad deal if you were already going to use Orbitz, but if you are just interested in getting a Blackberry, you can probably find similar offers from various handheld retailers on a variety of handheld units. The Macintosh once dominated the PC landscape but Apple’s refusal to license their OS to other hardware manufacturers has turned what some still consider to be the best personal computer ever developed to just a novelty in the business world. Although RIM currently dominates the wireless email market, there are estimates that the total market is 35 million users. RIM just went over 2 million users in mid November and all of the other players combined don’t yet have a million users. This means that well over 90% of the market still goes untapped and you can bet that the big dogs want to get a piece of pie. This is why RIM has started licensing their messaging software to third party hardware vendors like Motorola, Nokia, etc. They even have a deal with PalmSource, who currently, is their biggest competitor.

RIM and Nextel put LoJack into Blackberry

It looks like Location Based Services are comming to the BlackBerry.
